Techky Cars Review:
Suzuki & Toyota Partnership
Now Three Models: Baleno, Vitara Brezza, Corolla

Japanese Automobile major Toyota has an India Joint Venchier Under the cross-branding arrangement, Suzuki will supply Toyota two of its best-selling vehicles — Baleno and Brezza — for the Indian market.
Toyota will supply its executive sedan Corolla in return. Maruti Suzuki will supply Toyota 30,000 to 50,000 units of its premium hatchback Baleno and Vitara sports utility vehicle annually, while Toyota will provide Suzuki with around 10,000 Corollas in both hybrid and gasoline models. The product portfolio of Maruti and Toyota has been complimentary,
with more than 95 percent of Maruti’s volume coming from vehicles with less than Rs 10 lakh price point, while 75 percent of Toyota’s volume comes from above Rs 10 lakh vehicles.
The arrangement enables Maruti to gain marketing insight from selling a sedan like Corolla with investment in product development and capital expenditure.
With more localization of Corolla, Maruti could potentially lower the price of the vehicle and gain incremental volumes in high-margin executive sedan segment with the sales volume of 1,000 units a month.
To be sure, cross-badging as a concept has not been successful in India when it was first tried by the Renault-Nissan alliance and later by Volkswagen and Skoda. Models such as Nissan Sunny and its twin Renault Scala, Nissan Micra, and Renault Pulse and Volkswagen Vento and its twin Skoda Rapid failed to live up to customers’ expectations.
In the leaked renders, the Toyota-badged Baleno shows front fascia taken from eleventh generation Corolla. The rear side, on the other hand, shows tail lamps taken from the same model of the updated version that the Corolla got as a mid-life upgrade. The renders do not show any details of interiors. I think interiors are like Toyota Yaris because i has a very good interior, However, it is safe to assume that the car manufacturer will go for Toyota-based design instead of Maruti that would bring it closer to Corolla.
Even if the Suzuki-Toyota partnership is able to crack the technology and affordability puzzles, selling EVs in the subcontinent will still remain an uphill task. This agreement marks the entry of Maruti Suzuki—India’s largest carmaker, majority-owned by Suzuki—into the EV ecosystem which the Narendra Modi government is trying hard to kickstart. By 2030, the government intends to stop selling conventional, gas-fuelled vehicles altogether, though the precise contours of the plan remain unclear. A new EV policy is expected to be unveiled by the end of the year. What can they do with their partnership and who launch their product at the market first let us see in the future?
